I haven’t read any previous books by Penny Chrimes, but I found the idea of a boy rescuing a dragon that is trapped under London appealing.

The characters in this book were well rounded and (for the most part) engaging. I particularly loved the character of the dragon, she was delightful.

The plot was enjoyable, a great adventure, with rescues all round. However, it was too dark for me. There was too much death for my tastes. And I found the ending horribly sad. I don’t think everyone would, but it’s not the happy ending I was hoping for.

Overall, this was an exciting adventure, full of interesting characters. Just don’t expect happy endings for everyone.

Blog Tour - Murder in Mayfair

  Review - 5 out of 5 stars: I love the Lady Eleanor Swift mysteries, and Murder in Mayfair was no exception. This time, Eleanor is trying to solve a murder and a burglary at the same time. I really enjoyed being along for the ride as she frantically tries to find the truth.  Eleanor is a favourite character, I love her forthrightness and the way she never gives up. She’s also kind and compassionate. I loved the way that she, Clifford, and Hugh worked together on this case. The mysteries themselves were intriguing, and I enjoyed the way finding out new facts gradually revealed what had actually happened. And I was still surprised at the reveal!  As always, I enjoyed the historical notes at the end. Overall, this was another excellent mystery from a favourite author.  I was given a copy of this book, my opinions are my own. Review: The Enforcer Enigma

The Enforcer Enigma by G.L. Carriger My rating: 5 of 5 stars Gail Carriger (aka G. L. Carriger) is my favourite author, and I will read anything she has written. I have high expectations, and she exceeds them every time.  This book was wonderful, just like all the others in this series. It was both hilarious and touching. It had a beautiful, heartwarming plot. As usual, the use of language is wonderful, and often playful, in a way that reminds me of P. G. Wodehouse (though the plot is obviously not alike).
