This is an excellent book. My second favourite new book this year (and given that I get through one a day, that’s saying a lot).

I found the first 2 or 3 chapters dull - this was partly how I was feeling at the time, exhausted and brainfogged, and partly the language being a little heavy on the big, obscure words - but as soon as Prunella sauntered onto the page I was sold. From that point forwards, it just got better and better.

Regency Era but with magic - excellent
Magical creatures - excellent
Fun and just a teeny bit of silliness here and there - excellent
Sense of humour - excellent
Politics - urgh I hate reading about these, but (apart from the first couple of chapters) this was handled with a relatively light touch, being just one element of the plot.
Prunella - excellent, I love everything about her

Yep, second only to the 5th Gender by Gail Carriger. Highly recommended.

I was not disappointed! I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book. I loved the story relating to the love letters, and how they (eventually) brought people together. I loved the setting. Nelson’s Bar is clearly a beautiful place near the sea, and all the snow made the book seem extra Christmassy. The characters were also great. I loved Maddy, and the way she’s coped under difficult circumstances, and given Lyla such a lovely childhood. I really liked Raff too, and in fact all the other characters, with the exception of Harris. I understand his reasons, but that is not how you treat anyone you care about! Blog Tour - Murder in Mayfair

  Review - 5 out of 5 stars: I love the Lady Eleanor Swift mysteries, and Murder in Mayfair was no exception. This time, Eleanor is trying to solve a murder and a burglary at the same time. I really enjoyed being along for the ride as she frantically tries to find the truth.  Eleanor is a favourite character, I love her forthrightness and the way she never gives up. She’s also kind and compassionate. I loved the way that she, Clifford, and Hugh worked together on this case. The mysteries themselves were intriguing, and I enjoyed the way finding out new facts gradually revealed what had actually happened. And I was still surprised at the reveal!  As always, I enjoyed the historical notes at the end. Overall, this was another excellent mystery from a favourite author.  I was given a copy of this book, my opinions are my own. Review: The Enforcer Enigma

The Enforcer Enigma by G.L. Carriger My rating: 5 of 5 stars Gail Carriger (aka G. L. Carriger) is my favourite author, and I will read anything she has written. I have high expectations, and she exceeds them every time.  This book was wonderful, just like all the others in this series. It was both hilarious and touching. It had a beautiful, heartwarming plot. As usual, the use of language is wonderful, and often playful, in a way that reminds me of P. G. Wodehouse (though the plot is obviously not alike). I really can’t recommend this series (and Gail Carriger in general) enough. View all my reviews
