I really enjoyed Murder in the Scottish Highlands, the first book in this excellent series by Dee Macdonald. So I was thrilled to be asked to review book 2, Murder at the Loch.


This time around, Ally is enjoying some lovely scenery when she discovers a body floating in the loch. Then follows her usual escapade of investigating!


I really loved this story. I love the setting of Locharran. I love the characters who live there, some of them more quirky than others. It was fun to catch up with how Ally, Flora, and their friends were getting on.


The mystery was a good one. There were plenty of suspicious characters, some new ones, and some who live in or around the village. This was enjoyable because I couldn’t see for certain which one it was, though of course I had ideas.


Overall, this was a really excellent mystery. I definitely recommend it. I can’t wait to read the next book!

Author Bio:


Aged 18, Dee arrived in London from Scotland and typed her way round the West End for a couple of years before joining BOAC (forerunner of British Airways) in Passenger Services for 2 years and then as a stewardess for 8 years.


She has worked in Market Research, Sales and at the Thames TV Studios when they had the franchise.


Dee has since relocated to Cornwall, where she spent 10 years running B&Bs, and only began writing when she was over 70!


Married twice, she has one son and two grandsons.

The Enforcer Enigma by G.L. Carriger My rating: 5 of 5 stars Gail Carriger (aka G. L. Carriger) is my favourite author, and I will read anything she has written. I have high expectations, and she exceeds them every time.  This book was wonderful, just like all the others in this series. It was both hilarious and touching. Blog Tour - Murder in Mayfair

  Review - 5 out of 5 stars: I love the Lady Eleanor Swift mysteries, and Murder in Mayfair was no exception. This time, Eleanor is trying to solve a murder and a burglary at the same time. I really enjoyed being along for the ride as she frantically tries to find the truth.  Eleanor is a favourite character, I love her forthrightness and the way she never gives up. She’s also kind and compassionate. I loved the way that she, Clifford, and Hugh worked together on this case. The mysteries themselves were intriguing, and I enjoyed the way finding out new facts gradually revealed what had actually happened. And I was still surprised at the reveal!  As always, I enjoyed the historical notes at the end. Overall, this was another excellent mystery from a favourite author.  I was given a copy of this book, my opinions are my own. Blog Tour - Murder on the Menu

  Review - 4 out of 5 stars: I’m always on the lookout for more cosy crime authors, so when the opportunity to review Murder on the Menu by Katie Marsh arose, I jumped on it. This is the third book in the Bad Girls Detective Agency series, and I haven’t read the previous two. I found that this book worked well on its own, there weren’t any confusing bits where I felt like I was missing vital information. The setting worked well, the island isolated by the storm, and the run down castle, produced an excellent atmosphere for this thrilling tale.  I liked the characters, and though I suspect I would have understood them better if I’d started with book one, they were all well enough portrayed that they felt real. The mystery was a good one, and although I had suspicions of the culprit near the beginning, I couldn’t be sure until all was revealed. There were many excellent candidates for the murderer!
