Blog Tour - Death at the Old Curiosity Shop


 

Review - 3.5 out of 5 stars:


I do enjoy a cozy crime, and I thought Death at the Old Curiosity Shop sounded interesting, so I decided to give it a try.


I liked Alice, though I found her a little naive for her age. The village was also full of odd characters who added plenty of interest to the story.


The setting was good - Little Proud was an interesting village, with all sorts of fun quirks. 


Unfortunately, Alice doesn’t actually start investigating until about 70% of the way through. Luckily I enjoyed reading about her settling in to her new home and sorting out the shop. And the mystery was interesting once it really got going.


Overall, this was a fun introduction to a new series, with an interesting mystery.

Blog Tour - Murder in Mayfair

  Review - 5 out of 5 stars: I love the Lady Eleanor Swift mysteries, and Murder in Mayfair was no exception. This time, Eleanor is trying to solve a murder and a burglary at the same time. I really enjoyed being along for the ride as she frantically tries to find the truth.  Eleanor is a favourite character, I love her forthrightness and the way she never gives up. She’s also kind and compassionate. I loved the way that she, Clifford, and Hugh worked together on this case. The mysteries themselves were intriguing, and I enjoyed the way finding out new facts gradually revealed what had actually happened. And I was still surprised at the reveal!  As always, I enjoyed the historical notes at the end. Overall, this was another excellent mystery from a favourite author.  I was given a copy of this book, my opinions are my own. Review: The Enforcer Enigma

The Enforcer Enigma by G.L. Carriger My rating: 5 of 5 stars Gail Carriger (aka G. L. Carriger) is my favourite author, and I will read anything she has written. I have high expectations, and she exceeds them every time.  This book was wonderful, just like all the others in this series. It was both hilarious and touching. It had a beautiful, heartwarming plot. As usual, the use of language is wonderful, and often playful, in a way that reminds me of P. G. Wodehouse (though the plot is obviously not alike). I really can’t recommend this series (and Gail Carriger in general) enough. View all my reviews
