Review: The Bangalore Detectives Club

I was attracted to this book by the cover and title. I love murder mysteries, and the setting of 1920s India is one I’ve not read before.

I really enjoyed Kaveri’s character. She is very determined, and becomes more confident as the plot moves along. I loved the evolving relationship between her and Ramu, how he supports her, but also tries to stop her from getting hurt.

I liked the descriptions of the clothing, particularly when Kaveri adjusts her sari. Somehow it made me feel very present in the story. The settings come across well, there’s enough description to visualise them, without at all pulling back from the story.

The plot is well constructed, a really interesting mystery where I wasn’t sure of the culprit until quite near the end. The only thing I didn’t like, was the prologue. It doesn’t seem to have any bearing on the current book, I would call it more an epilogue that hints at the next book in the series, perhaps?

Overall, this was a well written murder mystery, with a great setting, that held my interest throughout.

The Christmas Love Letters: a gorgeous, heartwarming new Christmas romance to cosy up with this winter by Sue Moorcroft My rating: 5 of 5 stars I love Sue Moorcroft books, and Christmas books, so I was excited to be invited to read The Christmas Love Letters. I was not disappointed! I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book. I loved the story relating to the love letters, and how they (eventually) brought people together. I loved the setting. Nelson’s Bar is clearly a beautiful place near the sea, and all the snow made the book seem extra Christmassy. The characters were also great. I loved Maddy, and the way she’s coped under difficult circumstances, and given Lyla such a lovely childhood. I really liked Raff too, and in fact all the other characters, with the exception of Harris. I understand his reasons, but that is not how you treat anyone you care about! Sue Moorcroft has produced another beautifully romantic and Christmassy story. I highly recomme

Review: The Ice Garden

The Ice Garden by Guy Jones My rating: 4 of 5 stars A magical tale. I really enjoyed this book. I so felt for the main character, as I’m allergic to the sun too (though not to anything like the same extent).
