Review: Southern Bred and Dead

As always, I was so happy to return to this favourite series. Verity is back, dashing around ghost hunting with Frankie. I love Verity, she has such a good heart, and it’s so much fun to ride along as she’s solving murders both new and old.

This book did make me feel a little sad though - to see Verity and Ellis struggling so much with their relationship, and how to get around the fact that she takes so many risks. I really hope they can find a way to permanently work through that. I can’t help feeling that there are some steps she could take (eg take self defence classes) to stay a little safer.

I loved the fact that we started really digging into Frankie’s history - I won’t say any more as I don’t want to spoil it! I really enjoyed having that mystery alongside the present day murder.

Lucy made some lovely appearances too. I like the sense of community in Sugarland, even if not everyone is nice! It was great fun visiting some new in the past locations. And of course it all ended happily.

If you’re looking for a murder mystery that’s a little different, full of heart, humour and community, this is the book (and the series) for you. I highly recommend it!

The Christmas Love Letters: a gorgeous, heartwarming new Christmas romance to cosy up with this winter by Sue Moorcroft My rating: 5 of 5 stars I love Sue Moorcroft books, and Christmas books, so I was excited to be invited to read The Christmas Love Letters. I was not disappointed! I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book. I loved the story relating to the love letters, and how they (eventually) brought people together. I loved the setting. Nelson’s Bar is clearly a beautiful place near the sea, and all the snow made the book seem extra Christmassy. The characters were also great. I loved Maddy, and the way she’s coped under difficult circumstances, and given Lyla such a lovely childhood. I really liked Raff too, and in fact all the other characters, with the exception of Harris. I understand his reasons, but that is not how you treat anyone you care about! Sue Moorcroft has produced another beautifully romantic and Christmassy story. I highly recomme

The Ice Garden by Guy Jones My rating: 4 of 5 stars A magical tale. I really enjoyed this book. I so felt for the main character, as I’m allergic to the sun too (though not to anything like the same extent).
